Sautéed Mushrooms


What you'll need

  • Frying pan 10 inch

  • Heating source.

  • Tongs/ Spatula

  • 1lb of FRESH Mushrooms

    • Sliced into 1/4th inch slices

  • Butter

    • 4 TABLESPOONS

  • Oil

    • Olive oil works well

    • 4 TABLESPOONS

  • Salt

What to do

  1. Add 2 TABLESPOONS Butter to PAN

  2. Add 2 TABLESPOONS Oil to PAN

  3. Heat pan over medium-high heat until butter is melted

  4. Arrange Mushrooms in a single layer leaving a little space between each one

  5. Lightly salt the mushrooms

  6. Cook 3 to 4 minutes until mushrooms are brown

  7. Flip mushrooms

  8. cook 3 to 4 minutes until brown on the other side

  9. Remove mushrooms from pan

  10. Repeat steps 1 to 8 until all the mushrooms are cooked

  11. Serve/ Add Mushrooms to food being cooked.

NOTES:

  • Do not "crowd" the mushrooms.

    • Too many mushrooms will cause them to simmer/steam in their own juices. Keeping them apart will reduce this effect. It's OK if you have to do several batches, the mushrooms cook pretty fast.

  • Do not stir the mushrooms

    • We want the heat to hit the same area to form a "crust".
      They will start to brown on one side as you cook them.
      Flip them when they are well browned, this happens in about 3 to 4 minutes.


  • For recipes like pasta sauce, you can add the mushrooms when you add the meat.

  • For recipes like steak, add the mushrooms right before serving: usually on top of the steak.

  • For recipes like grilled cheese, add the mushrooms to the sandwich before cooking the sandwich.
